Rev. James Acker—In the Monastery
I entered the introductory monk training program at age 19 and took the aspirant, supplicant and postulant vows over a period of six years. After ten years of training in religion, philosophy, metaphysics, psychic and psychological arts, pure awareness meditation and much hard, abstaining, spiritual discipline, I received final ordination as a minister priest. This training is considered by many contemplatives to be extraordinarily demanding. During this period I also received a bachelor’s degree in English and masters in philosophy, spiritual psychology and religion and nearly finished a degree in journalism. I was also extensively trained in religious and spiritual history. I lived in monasteries on the Wailua River in Hawaii, the mountain deserts of Nevada, in New York and San Francisco, and spent one year in deep spiritual practice living in arid northern Sri Lanka among poor Tamil villages. I spent five years in the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius, teaching and serving near an impoverished village of Christians, Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists. Much of my ministry and teaching life took me on extensive travels through Asia and Europe. During key passages of my monk‘s life, I spent several years in deep retreat—living in hermitages in total simplicity, meditating most of the day and late hours into the night.....and practicing complete silence.

Rev. James Acker—Spiritual and Psychic Training
My spiritual, psychic and meditation practice and personal training under Father Robert Hansen continued for over thirty years. I served as a key writer in the order for many years, and fulfilled several decades of teaching, mentoring and counseling people of all ages and backgrounds. Much of my service was occupied in ministerial responsibilities and officiations—including weddings, funerals and rights of passage. I was responsible for developing several children’s and youth courses and was involved as the lead teacher in international youth retreats and adult retreats for over twenty years.

In interior prayer and meditation teaching, I have spent thirty years perfecting the skills and insightful approaches to take aspiring prayer practitioners and meditators to the next level of their practice and experience. As a philosophical, metaphysical and meditation advisor and teacher, I bring great passion, experience and insight into helping people discover their innermost potential as complete humans, and realization and evolution as spiritual beings.
